BLACKTHORN – Prunus spinosa

Very common shrub in uncultivated lands and along roads and ditches. Adaptable to all soil and climate conditions. Very resistant to drought with a very fast growth rate. It has spectacular white spring blooms.

The fruits are small edible berries rich in vitamin C, blue in color used for jams, also very popular with birds. Depending on the genotypes, it can be a compact shrub no more than 2 meters high up to a large shrub that can reach 4 or 5 meters. Thorny species that forms impenetrable tangles and can also be used to create defense hedges.
